When I was little and out shopping with my mother, we went into a department store with a travel agency in it. As we walked by I thought, "I would like to be a travel agent one day." I never forgot that day. The thought of traveling to far-away lands and visiting so many different places and experiencing different things always made me happy. When I was in elementary school, our family travelled to China, Hawaii and Hong Kong and that cemented my desire to travel even more.
Many years later I had an opportunity to train and work with the travel and cruise industry. I realized that I enjoyed dealing with the public but that my desire was more in creating that ideal trip for others. Since that realization, I have planned and travelled within Canada (but would love to see more) lived and worked in the US (visited states from east coast to west coast and even opened a travel agency), visited Europe (Christmas Market river cruise in Germany and inspected barges in the south of France), the Caribbean (cruised east, west and south) and Bermuda (hang on tight to the bus rails as those bus drivers are crazy!).
So what have I learned? To get the most out of all my trips, I had to decide what I wanted most out of each trip and then build everything else around it. When our family went on a southern Caribbean cruise, I really wanted to do a cooking tour so I did. When we were in Jamaica, the boys wanted to see Dunn's River Falls so they did. Since we were able to do what we really desired, those trips were always the most memorable and everyone had fun.
